It’s been a massive Saturday in Christchurch, highlighted by Ryan Wood’s podium haul continuing, leaving him in the lead of the JR Trophy by 33-points with one race to go.
Race 11
Woody: 3rd
Chaz: 13th
Woody went like grease lightning off the line, going from sixth to third into turn one and pushing the front two.
Chaz was stuck in the midfield battle for most of the first stint as they traded blows, which quickly tuned into a race to see who could get track position in the first stop.
Woody popped out in the hunt for the lead, but a flat spotted left front tyre halted any progress forward, settling for P3. Importantly, that made it four from four trophies in the NZ double header to that point, an incredible run.
For Chaz, he battled hard all race but just didn’t have the balance to push forward.
Race 12
Woody: 4th
Chaz: 12th
The first and only race on the SuperSoft tyre for the weekend was always going add a few question marks on strategy and degradation.
From pole, Woody battled for the lead into turn 1 with Matt Payne, eventually having to yield and slot into second for the opening stint, which was run at a cracking pace.
Chaz was elbows up early, moving forward inside the 10 before the first stop.
The strategy call was always going to be a toss of the coin between rear tyres only, holding track position, or all four with tyre life late. We went the track position path early, to cover those around both cars.
For Woody, a few self-admitted errors, and then the rears only made it hard for him to fight the cars with speed late, just slipping off the podium, but still collecting a great haul of points in fourth. Importantly, still leading the JR Trophy heading into the final day.
For Chaz, it was on for all money in the pack, falling on the wrong side of a few things. He will be throwing the kitchen sink at tomorrow to finish on a high.
Ryan Wood
“Awesome to get another podium here on home soil here, the fan support has been genuinely incredible, I’ve never felt more people in my corner and it’s so inspiring.
“Little bit disappointed in myself in the second race today, made a few little errors I shouldn’t have, but overall, to be disappointed in fourth shows how quickly this year has evolved.
“Huge day tomorrow, we won’t be leaving anything out there that’s for sure.”
Chaz Mostert
“Just hasn’t been our weekend so far unfortunately, it’s not through lack of trying though, every guy and girl here is working around the clock so I can’t thank them enough.
“Tomorrow’s a new day, we think we made a few inroads today so keen to qualify tomorrow morning.
“I hope everyone here and at home is getting behind Woody going for the JR Trophy!”
