A top five finish for Chaz Mostert in Race 7 whist Ryan Wood was a man on a mission, up 14 spots during the race but sustained a 30-second penalty that dropped him back to 18th.

It was an early start today, beginning with a dramatic qualifying session. In session one, Chaz had strong enough pace to set the fourth fastest time for this afternoon’s race.

It was a different story on the other side of the garage with Ryan encountering a gearbox issue that left him stuck in first gear, keeping him in the lane for the majority of the session. When he eventually returned to the track, he got impeded by heavy traffic in the final corners, preventing him from setting his fast lap, meaning he had to start at the rear of the grid.

The second qualifying session saw a better qualifying result for Ryan, who secured P6 for tomorrow’s final race, while Chaz qualified P12.

Race 7

What a start for Ryan in the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2, from starting P24 he worked his way up to P14 by the end of lap one, it was an incredible effort. He had his peripheral vision in overdrive, avoiding the chaos around him.

Chaz found himself caught in a battling pack in the opening laps, contesting for fourth position. After briefly slipping back, he settled into P5 before the first of two safety cars were deployed.

Continuing his charge through the field, Ryan made his way into the top 10 before making contact with the rear bumper of Thomas Randle, which resulted in a 30-second time penalty.

Midway through the race, Chaz managed tyre wear as grip became a challenge, dropping to P6 before executing a late pass in the closing laps to reclaim a top five finish.

Ryan ultimately crossed the line in P10, earning the biggest mover of the race. However, the 30-second penalty dropped him down to P18.

Overall, it was another valuable day of progress for the team with the new Toyota GR Supra’s.

We have one final hit out tomorrow, Ryan will be starting off P6 and Chaz off P12 for a 15 lap race to round out our weekend here at the Australian Grand Prix.

Chaz Mostert

“I can’t really complain with a top five finish, we managed to keep the race car pretty clean amongst all of the carnage out there today.

“Tomorrow’s race will be a bit tougher, we’ll be starting out of P12, we’ll need to tune up the Mobil 1 Optus rocket overnight so we can move forward in the final race.”

Ryan Wood

“We were on for a really good result today, considering where we started but I made a judgement error and had a clash with Thomas, I’m sorry for ending his race early.

“On a more positive note, the race car is really speedy, the team have done an awesome job tuning up our race pace this weekend.

“We have one final one tomorrow, we start out P6 so we are definitely in the hunt for a good result.”
