A P6 finish for Chaz Mostert to round out a solid weekend in Perth, whilst it was a tougher day for Ryan Wood who didn’t start Race 25 today due to a mechanical issue on the formation lap.

The morning kicked off with qualifying which saw a very tight timesheet. Chaz was 0.01 seconds off the Top 10 shootout, and qualified P12 whilst Ryan scored himself a ticket into the shootout.

Making a few changes between qualifying and the shootout, Ryan was keen to put together a strong lap and that’s exactly what he did, securing a spot on the second row in P4.

As the green flagged was waved for the formation lap, Ryan Wood reported an airbox issue, forcing him into the garage and unable to take his place on the grid for the race start.

When the lights went out, Chaz had an incredible launch off the line, gaining three positions into Turn 1. Meanwhile, the crew worked tirelessly in the garage to return the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 to the track, but ultimately ran out of time to complete the required 75% race distance.

Showing strong pace, Chaz continued to move forward in the opening stint, climbing to P6 before pitting on lap 23 for four tyres and 10 seconds of fuel. He rejoined in effective P6, and settled in for a long middle stint.

Once the second round of pit stops cycled through, Chaz emerged in effectively P7 and gained an additional position when Kostecki was required to make another stop. The Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 1 ultimately crossed the line in P6, rounding out a solid weekend in Perth for Chaz.

The team now heads to Queensland Raceway, Chaz’s home track, for our final round of the Sprint Cup in a few weeks’ time.

“Another weekend here in Perth, this year with the Toyota GR Supra, we had three pretty consistent results with a P4, P5 and P6.

“We are there or there abouts, unfortunately we didn’t get any trophies this weekend, we just didn’t quite have the pace to compete with the front five or so guys.

“Overall, a good bank of points, and we are off to QR next round which has been a happy hunting ground for me in the past.”

“That was a pretty disappointing way to end up here weekend here for the Walkinshaw TWG Racing team, really gut wrenching.

“Overall, we can be proud of our efforts this weekend, back on the podium, it felt like I was back in my good rhythm, so I am really proud of what we achieved.

“We will come back stronger at QR, it’s getting tight in the top 10 so today really hurt us, but we will come back.”
