Not the Saturday we were after in Townsville, with Chaz Mostert bringing home a P7 and Ryan Wood a P26 after steering damage sent the No. 2 garage bound and seven laps down.

It was another strong start to the day with Chaz and Ryan earning their place in the Top 10 Shootout.

Chaz was up first, putting together a tidy lap but lacking the overall grip needed to climb further up the order, qualifying P9. Ryan followed with an impressive lap, securing a spot on the second row in P4.

When the lights went out for the 200km race, it was a frantic start with both drivers keeping their noses clean through the opening few lap chaos before settling into their rhythm.

The opening stint saw both cars hold positions, with Chaz diving into the lane for his first stop on lap 20 before rejoining alongside Feeney in a hard fought battle.

Ryan came into the lane three laps later, rejoining effectively P5 and spending the middle stint locked in a battle with Kostecki.

The race took a turn for the worse on lap 42 when the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No.2 was forced wide by Kai Allen, leaving Ryan with significant steering damage. He limped the car back to the garage, where the crew immediately got to work.

Meanwhile, Chaz completed his final stop and emerged into clean air, most the most of the fresh tyres and charging through the final stages.

The crew did an incredible job repairing Ryan’s car, allowing him to rejoined the race despite being seven laps down and salvage valuable championship points.

A strong final stint for Chaz saw him fight all the way to the checkered flag to secure P7, while Ryan crossed the line in P26 to complete his challenging afternoon.

Chaz Mostert

“A P7 today, I can’t complain about that, 200kms around Townsville is always full-hard yakka!

“I had some good battles out there and the crew executed well in the lane, we just overall didn’t have the pace to be fighting further up the front.

“We will do our homework tonight so we can step it up a bit more tomorrow.”

Ryan Wood

“Richard and the crew did an awesome job tuning up the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No.2 overnight, we made leaps and bounds on our quali pace.

“The race really didn’t go our way, it’s a shame we couldn’t show our pace all the way to the end because we could have been on for a really good result.

“I have the best crew, they got to work straight away and did a mega job fixing the car to get me back out there to salvage some points.”
