That’s a wrap here in Tasmania after both Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood finish in the Top 10, a great recovery drive for Chaz, up nine positions.

Today’s festivities kicked off with a rollercoaster qualifying session, with Ryan Wood lining up P8 and Chaz Mostert P18 for the final 200km race of the weekend. The introduction of three compulsory pit stops added a whole new ball game to strategy across the field.

Race 16

Chaz Mostert: P9
Ryan Wood: P8

With limited passing opportunities around the track, both cars needed to make progress early, with Chaz gaining four positions and Ryan up one place in the opening laps.

With a split strategy the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 pitted for four tyres on lap 10 and the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 1 on lap 21. Armed with fresher tyres, Chaz quickly began charging forward and by lap 30 had climbed seven positions to P11, with Ryan close behind in P12.

Following the second round of stops, Chaz and Ryan charged forward together, maximising the clear air ahead moving their way into P8 and P9 respectively.

Chaz made his final stop on lap 67, with Ryan following a lap later. With Car 2 showing strong pace, Chaz opted to move out to the to help maximise the charge forward through the field.

Ultimately running out of laps, Ryan crossed the line in P8 with Chaz finishing close behind in P9.

The team now heads back to Melbourne for a quick turnaround before heading to Darwin for Indigenous Round.

Chaz Mostert

“The weekend started in unbelievable fashion with a race win in the Mobil 1 Optus Toyota Supra rocket, which was really cool.

“Our weekend went a bit up and down after the win, starting 18th was going to be a tough ask today but an 84 lap race helped us make our way up to 9th.

“Overall, really happy with the weekend to get my first win and pole for Toyota it was amazing to do it in front of all the fans here in Tasmania.”

Ryan Wood

“That’s a wrap on Tassie, it was a decent weekend with two P8’s and a P14, we were inside the 10 for most of those races but when you’re leaving the weekend disappointed like that it shows you’ve got high expectations which is good.

“It was a weird weekend because Chazzie won a race early on and it felt like we had the pace to do the same but didn’t quite get the results to show it.

“On to Darwin next for Indigenous Round, looking forward to seeing the livery in person, stay tuned because it’s going to be a special one.”
